ET420 S-Bahn Slate Art – Limited German Graffiti SubwayEdition
The ET420—a German S-Bahn classic, graffiti-era witness and collector’s piece for train writers.
The Class 420 is far more than a historic German S-Bahn train. The three-car electric multiple unit shaped the railway landscapes of several German metropolitan regions for decades. Its distinctive carriage form, rhythmic sequence of doors and windows and long presence within urban environments made it an enduring part of German S-Bahn culture.
For many German graffiti writers, the ET420 is also a genuine cult object. It represents a past era of train writing, analogue photography, night-time stations, railway yards, historic S-Bahn colour schemes and a period in which painted trains were often permanently preserved through only a small number of photographs.
The ET420 Edition translates this cultural significance into a permanent collector’s object made from natural black slate. At its centre is a detailed full side-view illustration of the classic three-car ET420. Its carriage connections, doors, windows, front sections and technical contours have been precisely developed for light laser engraving.
The dark natural slate gives the artwork the character of a recovered transit relic. The engraving appears like a trace taken from an old photographic archive—permanently transferred into stone and positioned between railway history, graffiti culture and contemporary urban art.
The ET420 Edition forms the 25th and final artwork in the first Chromatica City Series. This special edition is also strictly limited to only 25 pieces worldwide. Each plaque is individually numbered 01/25 to 25/25 on the reverse and supplied with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Not an ordinary train image, but a piece of German graffiti heritage:
This edition is created for train writers, old-school graffiti enthusiasts, S-Bahn fans, urban photographers and collectors of German transit culture. The ET420 was deliberately selected as the finale because it directly connects Chromatica’s two central worlds: authentic graffiti history and international train culture.
Unlike the preceding editions, the ET420 Edition is not assigned to one individual city. The class operated in several German regions and carries a cultural significance extending beyond a single location. It is therefore presented as an independent German Graffiti Heritage Edition within the City Series.
The artwork is an independent artistic interpretation of German ET420 and S-Bahn culture. It contains no official operator logos, route numbers, destination displays or line identifiers and is not affiliated with Deutsche Bahn or any transport association.
Every plaque is made from genuine natural slate. Variations in surface, edges, stone texture and engraving brightness are natural characteristics that make each of the 25 pieces unique.
You will receive one laser-engraved ET420 slate plaque with its Certificate of Authenticity. Display stands, frames and decorative props are not included unless explicitly listed.
